UNITED offers extrusion, injection and conveyance screws. Depending on the polymer flow environment, we offer the following base materials:
• 4340 HT carbon steel, hardened alloy-welded flights
• CPM 10v high chromium tool steel
• D-2 tool steel
• Stainless - 300/400 series
Full cap flight encapsulation is applied via a plasma transfer automated welding system. This allows the least amount of base material dilution into the hardened alloy, resulting in highly wear-resistant flight lands to maximize the life of the extruder screw.
Almost all screws are available for rebuilding. The rebuild process allows for savings in raw materials and limits downtime. Generally a 40% to 50% savings can be expected as opposed to purchasing new. At UNITED, all screws are inspected, involving a variety of nondestructive metallurgy tests, to deem if they are fit to be rebuilt and carry a new screw guarantee. It is important to maintain original equipment tolerance between screw and barrel to maximize performance and longevity.
In supplying a complete line of hardened bore barrels, UNITED can help you manage the processing of a
variety of extrudates. Numerous features are carefully considered before manufacture begins:
• Carbide Bimetallic: Extreme wear, furnace spun
• Standard Bimetallic: High wear, furnace spun
• CPM 9-v: Extreme wear, heat-treated
• D-2 Tool Steel: High wear, heat-treated
• Nitralloy 135: High wear, ion-nitrided
The different barrel types are very important to be supplied with a compatible screw package to optimize processing. Each has a benefit to specific processes,
cost-effectiveness and durability.
Reconditioned barrels can optimize barrel life. The resleeving process is an important cost-saving technique. During the process, the barrel core is reused and the worn bore is machined to accept a new sleeve, using the correct hardened bores to suit the application. The barrel is brought back to new specifications and guaranteed. It is not cost-effective in all cases, but generally yields a 30% to 40% savings. In the case of breakdowns, resleeving usually limits downtime considerably.
UNITED produces a wide range of extrusion machinery. The base extruder encompasses endless designs for multiple end products, from raw material prep to high end engineered profiles. New and completely refurbished extrusion packages are designed to produce high quality product while maximizing equipment integrity.

UNITED brings solutions. Often times, due to plant consolidation, budget, time frame or purchase of used equipment, we are contracted to essentially bring the equipment back to life. We are experienced in both extruder and TSR refurbishments. The process is also applicable to any production equipment. To manage lead times, we acquired ownership in Milestone Services, a valued subcontractor, to quickly assist in restoring parts. Our services include:
• Complete equipment restoration
• Reverse engineering of parts
• Blast cleaning and texturing of molds
• Blasting of structural steel and fabricated parts
• Metallizing worn or incorrectly machined parts
• Coatings: aluminum, steel, bronze, copper, tin
• Anti-Corrosion: zinc, aluminum, zinc/aluminum
Whether choosing rebuilt, new or custom-designed components, companies throughout the rubber and plastic industries depend on us to keep their equipment processing at optimal speed. UNITED has handled projects involving both upstream and downstream componentry. This knowledge has expanded to supplying spare parts for the milling and calendering aspects of production. Any of the present componentry can be reverse-engineered and supplied to original equipment quality with cost and
